Christmas Carol™ Camellia

Christmas Carol™ Camellia

Camellia x vernalis ‘Green J-039’

What do you get when you cross Camellia japonica with Camellia sasanqua? You get the best of two worlds: The graceful, semi-weeping habit of Christmas Carol makes it useful for those who find japonicas too stiff and stodgy in the landscape. Red, bell-shaped flowers with white, picotee borders begin in fall, with their grandest display during the Christmas season. Further into winter, scattered blooms persist with an even wider white margin, extending over 20% of the corolla. Fallen flowers create a beautiful effect, embellishing the ground in red and white like a holiday skirt. Delicate branching and lovely flowers with an extended bloom time…what more can we ask for?
