LOXLEY, Ala. – August 21, 2006 – Plant Development Services, Inc. (PDSI), a global leader in new plant introductions, has unveiled the Purple Pixie™ Loropetalum, a new dwarf, spreading loropetalum. One of the newest additions to PDSI’s innovative plant line, the Purple Pixie reaches an average size of 1-2 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide, with some of the most intense purple foliage color available on the market.

The Purple Pixie (Loropetalum chinensis ‘Shang-lo’ PPIP) features vibrant pink blooms in the spring which are often followed by occasional blooms in the summer and fall. Its rich foliage color is deeper purple than other loropetalum varieties, and the purple hue appears on both sides of the leaves.

In early growth stages, the Purple Pixie’s new flushes start upward, then gently cascade down, creating a beautiful carpet effect. This unique groundcover nature makes the Purple Pixie stand out among all other loropetalum varieties. Its unique growth pattern, texture and intense color make the Purple Pixie the only loropetalum perfect for ground cover, hanging baskets, window boxes and low-profile shrubs in USDA cold hardiness zones 7 through 9. The beauty and functionality of the Purple Pixie is sure to attract attention from consumers and professional landscapers alike.
